Dr. Laura Hughes has been a practicing physician for nearly a decade, is a graduate of Stevenson University and Eastern Virginia, and is board certified in Internal Medicine.

After completing a 3-year Internal Medicine residency at Florida Hospital Orlando, Dr. Hughes was a hospitalist at Florida Hospital Altamonte, and prior to CenterWell, was a hospitalist at Parrish Medical Center. The majority of patients she saw as a hospitalist were seniors with multiple comorbidities, and she dealt with many acute situations requiring life and death decisions. According to Dr. Hughes, her experience with the most acute cases provided her with an insight that lets her know when patients need to be sent to the hospital and when a condition can be safely managed in the office. It also gave her a perspective as to when to intervene before problems lead to hospitalization.

Dr. Hughes says the best part about her job is building therapeutic relationships with her patients and knowing she makes a positive difference in their lives. She was recognized with a Compassion Award, earned during her tenure at Florida Hospital Altamonte, and ensures patient satisfaction by encouraging her patients to ask questions and making herself available to answer them. At CenterWell in Altamonte Springs, Dr. Hughes is enjoying the continuity of care in primary care that she did not get in her hospital experience, and she is also pleased at how the team works together so well.

When she is not treating patients, Dr. Hughes enjoys walking, observing nature, and spending time with her niece.
