Dr. Mary Cox joined CenterWell as a board-certified family medicine physician. Dr. Cox earned her medical degree from the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her family medicine training at the Novant Family Medicine Residency in Cornelius, NC. She received a Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies, magna cum laude, from James Madison University, concurrently pursuing studies as an Intelligence Specialist in Virginia Beach, VA. She obtained U.S. Navy Certification, graduating first in her class, and served in the U.S. Navy Reserve as a National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Intelligence Specialist in Springfield, VA.
Before joining CenterWell in 2023, Dr. Cox practiced in multiple clinical settings in and around Charlotte, initially joining a large hospital group, practicing traditional family medicine in an outpatient clinic setting. She then worked as a supervising physician with a home-based primary care company which introduced her to the value-based care approach to healthcare. Passionate about the senior population and providing outstanding healthcare to an underserved population, Dr. Cox feels privileged to hear each patient's experiences, wisdom, and how they navigated difficult times and remind them of their inner strength to overcome challenges. She believes listening to her patients is key to improving their health and quality of life.
Dr. Cox chose medicine to help promote equity in healthcare. She has volunteered with the Dominican Republic Medical Mission Trip and the D.O. Cares Free Medical Clinic and has offered sports physicals and pediatric health screenings. In her free time, she enjoys painting, dancing, and home improvement projects.
