Dr. Lola Carrete joined CenterWell as a board-certified internal medicine specialist and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Carrete earned her medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and holds a B.A. in Psychology from New Mexico State University. Before joining CenterWell, Dr. Carrete taught medical students and internal medicine residents as an Assistant Professor in the Internal Medicine Department of the University of Texas Medical Branch. She treated patients privately and in the primary care clinic while serving as medical director of one of the hospital units and chairing a pharmacy subcommittee. Caring for seniors in primary care and hospitals, she emphasizes the need for chronic disease prevention and management to keep her patients well. Dr. Carrete feels listening to her patients and involving them in their treatment decisions is her most important role as a provider. This entails considering social, cultural, economic, mental, and spiritual factors to determine their well-being. She remarks, “The most rewarding aspect of my work as a physician has been building strong relationships with my patients and seeing them thrive.”
