Dr. Kiona Coleman is board certified in Family Medicine and recently joined CenterWell. She attended Angelo State University and completed her residency at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at Tyler. Dr. Coleman was drawn to medicine with a desire to serve underprivileged areas and educate people about their health. She had the chance to do just that at Christus Trinity Clinic, a rural health center, where she was Lead Physician and Medical Director for the last six years.
Her patient panel at Christus Trinity included over 1,500 patients 65 or older with complex medical conditions. Dr. Coleman tells us that the experience made her comfortable with multitasking and team leadership; managing home health orders, ordering DME, and working with specialists and hospitalists to ensure continuity of care. At CenterWell, she is delighted to be able to spend more time with patients and rely on our many in-house resources, like a pharmacy, social worker and care coaches, so that she is able to “provide the best care.”
Dr. Coleman reveals that the best part about her job is truly getting to know her patients and building her medical knowledge. She describes the ideal doctor-patient relationship as a partnership, where patients feel free to discuss their concerns in a non-judgmental atmosphere.
In her spare time, Dr. Coleman enjoys reading, listening to music, dancing — and has a passion for American muscle cars!
