Improving health and preventing medical conditions was the motivation behind Dr. McMahan getting into healthcare 28 years ago. She attended Duke University, completed her residency at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC, and is board certified in Internal Medicine.

Before joining CenterWell in Gastonia, NC, Dr. McMahan worked at Oak Street Health, CaroMont Health, and Gaston Family Health Services. She is well-versed in outpatient primary care, occupational medicine, as well as value-based primary care for seniors, laying the foundation for success here at CenterWell.

About her philosophy of care, she says, “I believe patients should be given the opportunity to make informed decisions about their health.” Dr. McMahan ensures patient satisfaction by listening to them and showing them she genuinely cares. For her, the “right” relationship with patients starts with building their trust and giving them the knowledge and personalized tools to prevent poor health and improve health outcomes. To Dr. McMahan, the best part about being a physician is talking and connecting with her patients, and she describes the Gastonia center as having “great people and processes in a positive culture.”

Dr. McMahan is married to a loving, supportive husband, has two daughters in their twenties, and maintains close relationships with family members here and in India. When she is not caring for patients, she enjoys hiking, traveling, reading, cooking and practicing yoga.
